iphone ping Ping! for iPhone   or   Why carriers hate PNSApple’s Push Notification Service was delayed multiple times after being announced – while no official reason was stated, carrier influence is very likely. After all, carriers live well off SMS…and the PNS is ideally suited for replacing just that.

A start-up called Ping Messaging has just started to test a service called Ping!, which it describes as follows:

iPhone-to-iPhone messaging made easy

Ping! uses push notifications to make messaging to iPhones quick and simple.

Also works with the iPod Touch.

From my personal point of view, a mass deployment of this service will probably cause headaches for Apple – I am not sure whether their PNS infrastructure is really able to handle the huge amount of traffic caused by thousands of IMs…
