Recently, various rumors have surfaced about how IOS 3.0 would lead to better photo quality on the iPhone. While firmware can lead to insane improvements in image quality (see these examples from a Siemens SX1), the reported images don’t have much to do with that.

The reason for this is short and sweet: one of them was made with an iPhone Classic, while an iPhone 3G was used for the other shot. fscklog performed an investigation of its own, and ended up with two extremely similar sample images.

I have to admit that I am not at all surprised: why should Apple improve the picture quality on its current devices? They need to sell the next iPhone after all…and that improved camera with video recording definitely is a good selling point…
